Question: Where can members access flagger training?
Answer: The SC Department of Transportation requires flagger training for employees whose duties involve controlling traffic in work zones. Flaggers are responsible for protecting themselves, fellow workers and drivers on the road. The Risk Management Services of the Municipal Association of SC suggests the National Safety Council Southeastern Chapter or SC LTAP Center as training providers. Topics covered include responsibilities of a flagger, personal protective equipment requirements, flagger locations and operations. The material covered meets the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, or MUTCD, and the American National Standards Institute Standard.
