The National Civic League named the City of North Charleston a 2026 All America City. Some of North Charleston’s recent major initiatives have included police accountability and community connection, the development of the world’s largest inclusive playground at Park Circle, and the Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program.
Several officials received their Accreditation in Business Licensing designation from the SC Business Licensing Officials Association. These include Kathryn Compton, business license coordinator, City of Rock Hill; Dana Payne, revenue collections liaison I, Charleston County; Eric Sapp, code enforcement officer, City of Forest Acres; and Jeffery Williamson, codes compliance officer, City of North Augusta. Michael Costa, business license specialist, Beaufort County, received the Master in Business Licensing designation.
Leadership South Carolina announced its Core Program Class of 2027, including Sharmane Anderson, town administrator for the Town of Santee; and Robert Halfacre, mayor of the City of Clemson. Leadership SC promotes leadership skills and an understanding of policy issues affecting South Carolina.
Sara Weathers, associate general counsel for the Municipal Association of SC, qualified for the Local Government Fellow designation from the International Municipal Lawyers Association, recognizing proficiency and competency in the local government legal field. Weathers is the second attorney in South Carolina to obtain this designation, joining Eric Shytle, general counsel for the Association.
