Delegates from cities and towns across the state elected Frank McClary, mayor of the Town of Andrews, as the 2026 – 2027 president of the Municipal Association of SC during the Annual Meeting in Greenville.
McClary, a native of Andrews, is a graduate of Benedict College, and earned a masters degree from the U.S. Army’s Senior Service College. A retired U.S. Army colonel, McClary’s military career included multiple assignments overseas, as well as time at the Pentagon and battalion command at South Carolina’s Fort Jackson. He planned and led combat operations with more than 20 foreign countries.
McClary said he was honored by the opportunity to serve as the Association’s president, and congratulated his predecessor, Travelers Rest Mayor Brandy Amidon for her work leading the board of directors.
He also praised the efforts of the Association staff in assisting municipal officials throughout the state in their public service. He encouraged local leaders to take advantage of the Association’s educational offerings, such as the Municipal Elected Officials Institute of Government, and its affiliate groups that help with the training and networking needs of specific municipal job positions.
The Municipal Association, he said, is “really advocating for the cities and towns of this state. [The Annual Meeting] is next-level stuff, and it just shows you that they’re going out, learning new things and looking at ways to improve us and make us better, stronger leaders in our community.”
