The South Carolina Law Enforcement Association awarded the Columbia Police Department the Santee Cooper Excellence in Law Enforcement Award, which recognizes effort, innovative service to the community, efficiency and results. Past winners include the Charleston Police Department and the Aiken Police Department.
The City of Columbia Public and Media Relations Department received the 2016 International Association of Business Communicators Award for the public education campaign known as "#KnowYourCity." The Municipal Association of South Carolina won IABC awards for its website, Annual Meeting event promotion, Achievement Awards video and history book, which details the Association's 85-year history.
