Patrol Officer I, City of Greer
Responds to various types of calls including house checks, fire calls, alarms, armed robberies, prisoner transports, weapon accidents, traffic control, abandoned vehicles, vehicle violators, school crossings, hazardous materials checks, noise complaints, murders, attempted murders, shoplifting, fraud, missing persons, nuisance calls, deceit incidents, drunks, malicious damage, missing persons, telephone incidents, sexual offenses, burglaries, assaults, death, etc.
Patrols assigned areas which involves driving patrol vehicle, investigating suspicious situations, serving traffic tickets, assisting the public, surveying areas for crimes, and responding to any calls. Handles community policing which involves setting up meetings with businesses, performing security checks, working on crime prevention, and directing the public to organizations such as Department of Social Services, Meals on Wheels, counseling, etc. Identifies, pursues, and arrests suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts.
Provides for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. Records facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities. Reviews facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statute violations were involved. Investigates illegal or suspicious activities. Monitors, notes, reports, and investigates suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area.
Requirements High School diploma or GED and at least 21 years of age. Must be able to successfully complete (or be currently certified by) the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Must be able to work 12-hour shifts. Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.
