Job Duties

Conduct Field Inspections: Inspect properties, structures, and vacant lots to determine compliance with applicable property maintenance codes and City of Woodruff codes and ordinances. Locate, investigate, and properly document violations found or reported within the City's boundaries. Gather and document evidence — such as vehicle information, owner data, complaint materials, and photographs — using a mobile phone or tablet, computer, camera, and written communication. Draft violation and inspection notices and correspondence for contractors and property owners. Communicate clearly.

Perform Administrative Duties: Use the department's data management system to document information collected during field inspections, including records, photographs, notices, and letters. Research property records using the City's and/or County's mapping (GIS) system, county tax data, and other property and persons search tools. Assist customers in person and by telephone, providing information on property maintenance codes and City ordinances. Maintain accurate, organized case files on all investigations, inspections, and enforcement actions.

Attend Court and Hearing Proceedings: Prepare evidence and documentation in support of legal actions taken by the City. Appear in court and at administrative hearings as necessary; testify regarding site investigations, research, and inspection findings in property and housing code violation cases. • Support Building Department Operations: Assist the Building Department with inspections as assigned, and maintain a working knowledge of current electronic data management and records systems used by the department.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. • Two-year Associate degree in Building Sciences, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of one year of experience in code enforcement, law/ordinance enforcement, or a construction-related field is required

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, internet, e-mail, and other job-related software
