Mechanic I, City of Greer
Performs general vehicle maintenance and mechanic duties including conducting vehicle tune ups, repairing and rebuilding engines, performing brake jobs, conducting hydraulic work, performing welding, fabricating and reworking vehicle bodies, changing and balancing tires, performing electrical work on vehicles, etc. Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle. Conducts inspections of vehicles; completes inspection reports.
Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential. Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear. Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings. Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Receives and completes work orders as necessary; receives invoices from vendors; forwards to proper staff. Cleans vehicles and vehicle parts as needed; picks up parts as necessary. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports including work orders, inventories, requisitions, and tool purchases.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including operator inspection sheets, service and maintenance requests, parts and supply receipts and bills, purchase orders, and work orders. Refers to technical updates, motor manuals, factory reports, user manuals, policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications, and reference texts, etc. Operates various types of machinery and equipment including vehicles, LN9000, LN8000, weed eaters; uses a variety of tools such as impact tool, impact wrench, hand tools, drill press, etc.; and a variety of supplies and materials
High School Diploma or GED equivalency. Minimum 4 years experience in vehicle or fleet maintenance. Must have valid drivers license. Must have own tools and tool box. Must successfully complete required courses and/or certifications that are deemed necessary by the City.
Must have the following skills: communication, problem-solving, detail orientation and teamwork/collaboration. Must be able to maintain a positive attitude while working under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Must be capable to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Must be self-motivated and able to accomplish tasks with little supervision. Must have basic computer knowledge. Must be comfortable sitting, standing and/or walking for long periods of time. Must possess a professional demeanor.
5 years experience in vehicle or fleet maintenance. ASE Certification. Automobile and Light Truck (A1-A9). Truck Equipment (E1-E3). Auto Maintenance and Light Repair (G1). Advanced Engine Performance Specialists (L1). Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist (L2). Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist (L3). Medium-Heavy Truck (T1-T8). Two (2) year degree or certificate from Automotive Repair Trade School. Certified Ford Technician. Heavy Duty Truck and Trailer Maintenance Experience. Equipment Maintenance Experience.
