Assistant City Manager, City of Myrtle Beach
The City of Myrtle Beach, SC is seeking an experienced local government leader to join their team as an Assistant City Manager. The Assistant City Manager provides leadership and administrative oversight of the City’s day-to-day operations, with direct responsibility for assigned departments within the City of Myrtle Beach. This role includes guiding departmental operations, managing budgets, and supporting talent development and organizational culture. The ideal candidate will have experience with economic development.
The Assistant City Manager provides leadership and oversight for assigned departments, setting goals, driving performance, and aligning operations with City priorities. The role evaluates programs, staffing, and resources to improve efficiency, ensures regulatory compliance, supports employee relations, and implements policies that strengthen accountability. It also leads special projects and advises leadership and Council, particularly as it relates to economic development activity.
This position oversees departmental budgets, including development, monitoring, and adjustments to ensure responsible financial management. It serves as a key liaison to City Council, partners, and the public—preparing presentations, facilitating policy discussions, addressing complex constituent concerns, and representing the City Manager to support coordinated, effective service delivery.
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in public administration is highly preferred. Ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience in local government; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience in economic development is strongly preferred.
