The Town of Pelion Police Department is seeking a qualified, experienced, and professional law enforcement officer to serve as a Lieutenant. This position is assigned to a permanent night shift and requires availability for scheduled court appearances, extra-duty assignments, and community events. The ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity, strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and a steadfast commitment to public safety and community service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Certification: Must possess a current Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer Certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA). Experience: Several years of experience as a Class 1 law enforcement officer required. Requires two (2) to five (5) years of supervisory experience (e.g., Sergeant), or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field preferred, especially for command-level responsibilities.

Legal & Background Requirements Must be at least 21 years of age Must be a United States citizen Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license with a clean driving record (no DUI or serious violations within the past five years) Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, which may include: Criminal history check Credit history check Polygraph examination Psychological evaluation Physical Requirements Must meet all departmental physical fitness standards Must pass a Physical Ability Test, if required by department policy

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Patrol assigned areas during night shift hours Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service Conduct criminal investigations and gather evidence Prepare accurate and detailed reports Make arrests in accordance with applicable laws and policies Testify in court proceedings Enforce traffic and criminal laws of South Carolina Provide leadership and supervision when assigned
