Job Duties

This mid-level supervisor works under the general supervision of the CID Lieutenant. They exercise responsibility for enforcing all State laws, Town ordinances, and department rules, policies, orders, and procedures relating to public safety and welfare. Work involves performing duties as senior-level supervisor over subordinate-level Detectives on their assigned shift or special activity for the Moncks Corner Police Department. The CID Sergeant will plan, organize, direct, control, lead, instruct, assign, support, train, evaluate the performance, and recognize the outstanding work

performance of personnel assigned to their team. The CID Sergeant plans daily operations, responds to complex crimes or criminal matters, provides direction on police-related subjects, and performs routine police administrative duties. The CID Sergeant exercises independent judgment in dealing with dangerous and unusual situations while ensuring the best safety practices and procedures are followed. The Sergeant works under stressful and high-risk conditions and performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three years of experience in law enforcement, including two years’ conducting criminal investigations or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have completed the prescribed course of study at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Training Academy or other training for criminal investigations. Must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license. An associate’s degree or higher is preferred.
