Principal Planner, Town of Hilton Head Island

The Principal Planner performs advanced planning, analytical, and research related to the administration of the Town's Land Management Ordinance and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan. This position works in a team environment with other professional planners and must be able to communicate effectively with an array of stakeholders, meet deadlines and maintain product quality while managing multiple assignments.
Essential Duties: Leadership & Coordination - Leads daily planning tasks; oversees research, analysis, and documentation for the Comprehensive Plan Policy Implementation & Networking - Aligns with Town Council goals and Strategic Plan; evaluates land use and transportation proposals; establishes key Town and public relationships Community Engagement - Engages in neighborhood planning; drafts/reviews planning RFP's' presents to Planning Boards; facilitates public meetings and site inspections.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Planning or related field. Six years of progressively responsible work in planning. Valid driver's license American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.
