Job Duties

Plans, directs, and manages the Town’s stormwater maintenance and drainage operations, including the inspection, maintenance, repair, and long-term management of stormwater infrastructure systems; investigates drainage, flooding, erosion, and related concerns; develops preventative maintenance programs; and coordinates corrective actions with regulatory agencies, utility providers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective operation and resiliency of the Town’s stormwater system.

2. Provides oversight for stormwater personnel, equipment, budgets, contracts, and operational activities by supervising staff, coordinating work assignments and emergency response efforts, managing procurement and inventory, monitoring contractor performance, maintaining operational records, and enforcing safety standards, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient, compliant, and safe departmental operations.

3. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations and stormwater permit requirements while supporting the Town’s strategic goals through project planning, flood mitigation initiatives, coastal resiliency efforts, emergency management and disaster recovery operations, interdepartmental collaboration, and the presentation of technical information and recommendations to Town administration, boards, commissions, elected officials, and the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in related field, civil engineering, public works, environmental science, or construction management, preferred. • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in stormwater maintenance, public works, utilities, drainage operations, or related field, including supervisory experience. • Experience with stormwater maintenance equipment and methods. Including operation of related equipment: backhoe, trackhoe, jet vac vehicles, stormwater pumps, etc.

• Valid South Carolina driver’s license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe. • Experience with stormwater regulatory compliance and infrastructure maintenance preferred. • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Work involves both office and field activities and requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and operation of vehicles and equipment. Employee may be required to lift materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more with or without assistance. Work may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions, standing water, insects, noise, fumes, uneven terrain, and emergency storm conditions.

Pay Info
$57,000-$65,000 per year depending upon certifications and experience
