River District Patrol Officer (Certified), City of West Columbia
Patrols the West Columbia Riverwalk Park and adjacent parking areas. Responds to calls on Riverwalk Park from Dispatch related to emergency call boxes and public complaints; requests resources such as EMS, law enforcement, animal control, etc. Monitors the park for maintenance and repair issues and communicates same to proper department; tests emergency call boxes and reports problems.
Interacts with and assists public who utilize the park. Administers first-aid and CPR in the event of an emergency. Enforces park rules and city ordinance violations as a Class I officer.
Assists with special events being conducted at the park. Maintains fuel/oil and operational readiness of patrol vehicle/cart. Documents incidents that occur on park property; testifies in court. (Refer to job description for complete list of duties.)
High school diploma or G.E.D. and a minimum of one year in a customer service related position. Must be 21 years of age. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must have a valid S.C. driver’s license and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle under normal and emergency situations, sometimes at high speeds, in fair and inclement weather. Must be able to successfully complete a basic first-aid class and CPR class within one year of hire.
Must be able to write an incident report as well as citations for violations of law or ordinance. Must be able to testify in a court of law. Must be able to effect proper arrest procedures including handcuffing. Must be able to physically restrain another individual. Must be able to physically defend oneself. Must be able to maintain focus and mental preparedness during shifts of 12-14 hours. Must have completed or be able to successfully complete Class I Officer.
Must be able to successfully pass a medical exam to include vision, hearing, and color blindness to S.C. Criminal Justice Academy standards. Must have a clean criminal history and driving record and be able to pass an extensive background investigation. Must have good communication skills. Must be of good moral character as determined by a background investigation. Must be able to pass a polygraph exam. Must pass a drug screen.
