Police Chief, City of Camden
Working with an annual budget of $3.4 million, the department operates with thirty-nine full-time employees and four part-time positions to perform a wide range of law enforcement activities to protect life and property and enforce state laws and city ordinances through a combination of proactive, reactive, and community policing techniques.
The successful candidate will be an experienced, proven, law enforcement leader that possess considerable knowledge of public sector budgeting and purchasing, the application of information technology to law enforcement work, and skill in public presentation, problem solving, and collaborative conflict resolution to build a clear vision of community policing for the future of the City.
The successful candidate must be an out-of-the-box thinker and approach challenges in an innovative manner. Candidate must demonstrate experience in delegation, mentoring and creating opportunities for growth, training, and career development within the organization to inspire confidence among members of the Camden Police Department and encourage a Culture of Excellence, Integrity, and Accountability.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public safety, or a closely related field and 15 years of increasingly responsible experience in public safety or law enforcement, including three years of administrative and management responsibilities. A Master’s degree is preferred, as is graduation from FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course, or a similar police leadership academy. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
The position requires certification as a Police Officer within the state of SC. A successful out-of-state candidate will be required to meet SC certification criteria within a reasonable period to be determined upon acceptance of the position. A valid SC driver’s license or the ability to obtain within 60 days of relocation.
