Planner Senior, City of Myrtle Beach
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing performance appraisals; schedules workload for planners; reports information to the Planning & Zoning Director. Coordinates daily work activities: organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise. Performs analysis and reviews recommendations of other staff members regarding zoning code
Provides information and technical assistance to citizens, property owners, land developers, contractors, architects, staff members, or other individuals/agencies regarding planning/zoning issues, ordinance/code provisions, sign and building permits, compliance, permitted uses, application procedures, and related issues: provides applicants with summary and checklist information of application procedures, deadlines, and fees; discusses problem areas with property owners and contractors and recommends solutions to problems; responds to routine questions or complaints; and researches problems
Prepares grant application packages; collects, compiles, and prepares data projections, program specifications, and other supporting details; writes draft reports and obtains the proper review and approval from appropriate City officials; coordinates the completion and compilation of application forms and supporting documentation requested by the application; and compiles the final application for submission to the appropriate agency or organization. Prepares the Comprehensive Land Use Plan; researches and analyzes statistical, mapping and tax data to determine past and current growth
Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Planning, Geography or a related field with two (2) years of experience in planning and zoning, code enforcement, or related field; or Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Geography, or a related field with three (3) years of experience in planning and zoning, code enforcement, or related field.
Licenses or Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
