Position Hours
Normal working hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm, but occasional extended hours and weekends as needed for City events, conference center bookings, downtown meetings, or collaboration with the City’s marketing partners.
Job Duties

The Marketing & Events Manager is a key leadership role within the Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department. This position leads the planning and execution of City-sponsored events and festivals, oversees the operations of the Edward Kyzer Firehouse Conference Center, and serves as the primary liaison with the City’s contracted marketing firm. The ideal candidate brings significant experience in event management, marketing, and staff supervision and is motivated to enhance the visibility and vibrancy of the City’s programs, events, and downtown assets.

Leads the planning, organization, and implementation of City-sponsored events and festivals, ensuring successful and engaging experiences for residents and visitors. Manages local marketing and outreach for Parks, Recreation & Tourism programs to ensure Newberry residents are informed and engaged. Oversees the operations, rentals, and marketing of the Edward Kyzer Firehouse Conference Center, including event bookings, tours, contracts, vendor coordination, and client communications.

Collaborates with local stakeholders such as the Chamber of Commerce, Newberry Opera House, Downtown Development Association, and other community partners to enhance visibility and participation. Coordinates with community partners to align event calendars and cross-promotional opportunities.

Qualifications

Marketing knowledge, including social media, branding, and public outreach; best practices in tourism and community-based marketing strategies. Practical knowledge of brand development, digital marketing tools, and event coordination; familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office, Canva, and basic graphic design platforms.

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, event management, public relations, or a related field and three to five years of professional experience in marketing, event planning, or tourism-related roles.

Prefers six or more years of experience in marketing, events, or destination promotion and working with or managing vendors or consultants. A plus if candidate has additional skills in WordPress, WIX, or other content management systems. Experience in a municipal or public service setting is a plus.

$50,968 - $58,000 Annually - Dependent on experience, education, and credentials
