Maintenance Technician in the Water Plant Department, City of West Columbia

Job Duties

Inspects, troubleshoots, and diagnoses potential problems with pumps and motors; performs general repairs on all equipment related to water treatment operations Performs varied mechanical and electrical repairs on water treatment plant system and equipment such as pumps, chemical feeders, rapid-mixer, chlorinators, air wash blowers, flocculator drives, flash-mixer, etc. Ensures all equipment functions properly and operates according to EPA and DHEC standards

Responsible for scheduling and conducting preventive maintenance on necessary equipment and performing procedures on a weekly, monthly, semi-annually, or yearly basis as needed. Makes procurement recommendations to supervisor for equipment, parts, and supplies for necessary repairs or to perform preventive maintenance service. Estimates materials, parts, and time for jobs and requisitions needed equipment, parts and supplies for necessary repairs.

Ensures repairs and newly installed equipment meet required standards and codes. Maintains logs of service completed. Utilizes various tools and equipment such as drills, saws, mechanic tools, electrician tools, etc. (Refer to full job description for additional duties.)

Qualifications

Vocational/technical school education or training in electrical and mechanical repairs/maintenance plus three to five years of experience in the electrical or mechanical maintenance field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job duties.

Must possess a valid SC Driver's License.

Must be physically able to perform manual labor required.

Pay Info
Salary Range $36,870.41 - $51,618.56 (FY 2026 – 2027), with excellent benefits package including 14 holidays and participation in the State Retirement System, the SC Deferred Compensation Plan, and the State Health Plan with the employee’s health and basic dental insurance premiums paid by the city.
