Job Duties

The purpose of this position is to perform routine maintenance and repair work on Department of Public Utilities vehicles and equipment.

Performs inspections. Performs routine and assists with complex repairs on vehicles and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Prepares new vehicles for service. Determines amount of materials required for projects.

Operates or uses various machinery, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies. Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures. Communicates with supervisor, other employees, clients, and other individuals as needed. May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by four years of experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response. Must possess valid South Carolina Driver’s License. Must obtain and maintain a valid SC Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must obtain and maintain Automotive Excellence Service (ASE) certifications and be certified by Fluid Power in hydraulics and/or by the National Welding Society in welding.

Must have basic knowledge of mechanics, wiring, electrical systems, electronic components, and some welding. Must be able to read testing devices, technical manuals, charts, and various mechanical measuring gauges.

Pay Info
$19.90 - $31.84 / hour
