Fire Marshal, City of Greer
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Serves as the Fire Marshal for the department. Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
Conducts and coordinates occupancy inspections for overcrowding. Conducts Certificate of Occupancy Inspections. Conducts fire investigations for cause and origin determination, photographs the scenes using various equipment (camera and matter port), and coordinates with law enforcement when needed. Oversees the plan review process for the department.
Coordinates and conducts life safety inspections for self and staff. Coordinates pre-fire plans for the department and ensures they are in-line with ISO requirements. Assists in coordinating department activities with other City departments and other local, state, and federal organizations as necessary or appropriate. Coordinates code changes to department when changed. Performs related work as required.
• Requires bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Business, Management, Public Administration, or related field, and eight (8) years of experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, and education, including five (5) years of fire service supervisory experience, or 10 years of experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, and education, including 7 years of fire service supervisory experience, or any combination of education and experience.
• Requires the following certifications: o NFPA/IFSAC Firefighter II o NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 o Fire Officer III; o ICC – Inspector II o ICC – Plan Review o ICC – Certified Fire Marshal o Fire and Life Safety Educator Level I o Car Safety Seat Technician. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Master’s degree in Fire Science, Business, Management, Public Administration, or related field, preferred.
