Finance Director, City of North Myrtle Beach
The City of North Myrtle Beach is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and experienced financial leader to serve as its next Finance Director. This is a key executive role responsible for overseeing the City’s financial operations and ensuring fiscal integrity, transparency, and sustainability. The Finance Director plays a vital role in shaping the City’s financial future and supporting its continued growth and service excellence.
Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Finance Director leads a broad portfolio of financial functions including budgeting, accounting, payroll, utility billing, risk management, investments, and financial reporting. This position also oversees the City’s information services and serves as a key advisor on financial strategy, policy development, and long-term planning. The Finance Director is responsible for preparing the City’s Annual Budget and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, managing cash flow and investments, conducting internal audits, and ensuring compliance.
Key Responsibilities Direct and manage all financial operations of the City, including accounting, payroll, utility billing, and revenue collection. Prepare and present the City’s annual budget and financial reports. Oversee risk management and approve claims up to $25,000. Monitor and manage pension transactions and trust funds. Conduct internal audits and ensure proper financial controls. Advise on rate structures for utilities and other city services. Supervise and develop finance department staff. Serve as a liaison to external auditors, agencies, and financial institutions.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. At least 6–9 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or finance, including 3 years in a supervisory role. Experience in governmental accounting and financial reporting is required. CPA, CPFO, or CGFM certification is preferred. Strong knowledge of municipal finance, budgeting, and internal controls. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
