Job Duties

The purpose of this position is to supervise and administer the seven member police department. Works under the mayor and town police committee. Performs generally routine or diversified duties requiring judgement in the application of broader aspects of established practices and procedures for law enforcement. As a small-town police chief must be able to do more with less and competent in every level of the agency. At time you will have to perform various duties ranging from patrol functions to criminal investigations to executive management.

Directs and supervises a uniform patrol team and responds to serious incident calls received by team members. Overseeing patrol operations and investigations to ensure enforcement of state and local laws and department policies and procedures.

Conducts inspections of personnel and equipment; completes quarterly reviews of personnel, disciplines subordinates when appropriate; performs basic law enforcement duties; coordinates with other agencies and businesses to keep the Town of Johnston clean and safe.

Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; must possess a Class 1 Basic Law Enforcement Certification from the SCCJA; must have more than four years of experience as a police officer or equivalent experience; must have basic training in supervisory methods. Must possess and maintain a valid SC driver's license.
