Job Duties

Administers the application, renewal, and compliance process for the Town’s business license program in accordance with municipal ordinance and state laws. Reviews and processes business license applications and renewals, verifying required documentation, calculating fees, and issuing licenses in a timely manner. Receives and processes payments for business license fees.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date records in the business license management system; generates reports and reconciles data as needed. Prepares and distributes regular and ad hoc reports related to business license activity, revenue, delinquent accounts, and compliance trends to Town management staff. Collaborate with other departments and staff to ensure businesses are in compliance with all applicable regulations, including, but not limited to, the collection and management of Accommodation Tax and Hospitality Tax payments for applicable businesses.

Stays informed of changes in state laws and municipal ordinances related to business licensing and recommends updates to internal procedures as needed. Assists with the annual budget process by projecting license revenue and identifying trends in local business activity. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required, with some vocational or technical training in accounting, or a related field; supplemented by two years of experience in customer service, business licensing, permitting or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Previous experience in South Carolina business licensing preferred. Must possess or obtain Notary Public certification. Ability to obtain and maintain ABL designation for Business Licensing Officials.

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, municipal and state laws associated with the business licensing. Knowledge of accommodation taxes and hospitality taxes. Knowledge of fee structures and calculations. Knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in problem solving. Skill in researching and preparing related reports. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication.
