Job Duties

Supervisor position works under the general supervision of the Training Lieutenant. Responsible for enforcing all State Laws, Town Ordinances and Department Rules, Policies, Orders and Procedures relating to Public Safety and Welfare. Work involves performing duties as senior-level supervisors over subordinate-level officers and may be assigned to special activities for the City Police Department. Plan, create, develop, organize, direct, control, lead, instruct, assign, support, train, evaluate performance, and recognize the work performance of personnel assigned to the police department.

Develop and create the training foundation for department employees. Plan daily operations, respond to complex crimes or criminal matters, provide directions on police-related subjects, and perform routine police administrative duties. Exercises independent judgement in dealing with dangerous and unusual situations while ensuring the best safety practices and procedures are followed. Works under stressful and high-risk conditions and performs.

Supervises employees in the Investigations Division. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending rewards and disciplinary actions on employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, College Degree or Technical Degree and successfully graduated from the Police Academy. Need at least 6 years of law enforcement work experience with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience. Must be a Class I certified Law Enforcement Officer certified through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Must be willing to attend or have previously attended classes/course work involving Police Supervision, Modern Policing. and/or Criminal Justice Theory and Practice.

Must be willing to work varying hours and be available in case of major crime events or Departmental needs.

The candidate must possess the physical stamina and agility required to perform essential law enforcement duties, including running, lifting, and subduing suspects. Must pass any and all test required by the SC Criminal Justice Academy and hiring department.
