Assistant Financial Manager for Risk Management Services, Municipal Association of SC

Job Duties
  • Assists with daily financial operations for Risk Management Services, ensuring accurate and timely processing of transactions
  • Performs professional accounting duties including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
  • Assists with preparation of monthly financial statements, audit schedules, and financial reports
  • Conducts financial and trend analysis and prepares reports for management review
  • Supports annual audits and actuarial reviews by preparing audit schedules, compiling data and responding to requests; assists in preparation of financial statements and footnotes.
  • Assists with the semi-annual actuarial review process by compiling and verifying data for actuaries; reviews reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Processes and monitors premium and deductible billings and follows up on outstanding receivables
  • Reviews and processes vendor payments and ensures proper documentation and approvals
  • Assists with budget preparation and monitors expenditures against budget
  • Maintains banking and investment records and supports cash management activities
  • Assists with regulatory filings and grant financial tracking
  • Responds to routine financial inquiries from members, vendors, and staff
  • Provides guidance to the RMS Financial Specialist
  • Assists with special projects and analyses
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and efficiency
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field with demonstrated analytical coursework or experience.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial analysis, or related work
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and financial systems; advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Experience in governmental accounting, insurance trust accounting, or financial modeling preferred
  • CPA certification preferred but not required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally and work collaboratively with others
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
