Director of Capital Projects, City of Myrtle Beach
Prepares Department budget request. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; processes employee concerns and problems; directs work; counsels, disciplines, and completes employee performance appraisals; interviews potential employees; and recommends employees for advancement. Tours City facilities for overall maintenance status; spot checks progress of active Capital Projects. Responds to inquiries and answers questions from City staff. Identifies state and federal funding resources or grant obligations; ensures project budgets are met.
Develops and plans projects; creates project estimates; obtains permits; manages construction projects; and handles project close-outs. Attends Council, Planning Commission, Community Appearance Board, Board of Zoning Appeal, and senior staff meetings; attends workshops; and conducts Department meetings. Directs the preparation and maintenance of facilities, project schedule, budgets and quality control objectives. Prepares and oversees operations and budgets for capital projects for the City. Writes specifications for projects; and coordinates with architects, engineers, consultants
Manages projects during design and construction phases; attends project progress meetings; and works with consultants and work crews to resolve problems. Reviews permit schedule; coordinates City-wide permit procedure. Prepares and makes presentations to Council and the Planning Commission. Develops and implements strategies related to the design, management, construction, maintenance and delivery of City projects. Operates a personal computer, digital camera, light meter, automobile, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions
Education and Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field; ten (10) years of related experience in construction management administration. Licenses or Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Special Requirements: None.
