Facilities Maintenance Technician, City of West Columbia
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on municipal buildings, including but not limited to: Carpentry: Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, and other materials. Constructing building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes. Installing and repairing doors, windows, stairs, trim, and other wood structures. o Plumbing: Locate and repair leaks, unclogging drains, repairing or replacing fixtures, repairing or replacing damaged parts in fixtures or plumbing systems, conduct routine system inspections. Electrical: Replacing light bulbs, switches, and outlets; perform
Painting: Use of proper protection methods (PPE, Ventilation, Area), repair and preparation of surfaces, proper understanding and selection of materials, techniques for applying paint, stain, or other finishes, proper clean-up. General Maintenance: Replacing ceiling tiles, repairing drywall, caulking and performing minor repairs to furniture and equipment. Assist with moving furniture, boxes and other items as directed. Perform custodial duties as needed. Assists Parks and Beautification Department staff as needed to complete tasks in a timely manner.
Works in a variety of weather conditions, including but not limited to: extreme heat, sun exposure, cold, and inclement weather for extended periods of time. Provides assistance with special events and meetings related to the City to include handling and transporting event materials and equipment; breaking down event setups at the end of the event or meeting and ensuring all equipment is properly stored. Provides assistance as necessary in emergency situations and during after-hours or inclement weather conditions. (Refer to job description for complete list of duties)
High school diploma or GED with some experience in the building maintenance or a related field, with some experience with park maintenance, horticulture and landscaping, or construction experience, or a closely related position; must have a working knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance principles and practices; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Must have strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
Must possess a valid SC driver's license.
