Job Duties

Plans, coordinates and supervises an effective fire service training program for new and existing employees and volunteers. Supervises subordinate training officers; supervisory duties include instructing, planning and assigning work, reviewing work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, assisting with the selection of new personnel, acting on employee problems, recommending employee discipline. Offers advice and assistance as needed.

Plans, develops, schedules, conducts and evaluates training programs such as basic training for recruits and volunteers, in-service training, and specialized training such as driver training and officer candidate training. Plans, schedules and conducts agility testing. Develops and recommends implementation of standard operating guidelines; Develops lesson plans, manuals and study guides. Researches, procures and maintains training aids. Prepares and maintains records and reports related to training; Assists in developing and managing the department’s training budget.

Assists in review and analysis of incidents. Responds to alarms and performs firefighting, fire rescue, and/or hazardous materials response duties as required. Attends training, conferences, seminars, and meetings to remain knowledgeable of modern fire suppression, training and prevention methods and administration; maintains required certifications. Performs general administrative / clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, attending meetings, etc. Remains available 24 hours.

Qualifications

Associate degree in Fire Science, Business, Management, Public Administration, or related field. Eight years of experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, and education, of which four years are in a supervisory position or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certified NFPA/IFSAC Firefighter II. National Registry EMT – B. NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700. Fire Officer III; Fire Instructor II; and Car Safety Seat Technician.

Must possess and maintain a South Carolina Class E or F driver's license.

Pay Info
Minimum salary $76,401 a year, dependent on experience.
