Welcome to the Municipal Association of South Carolina. The Association is a nonprofit organization representing all of South Carolina’s 271 cities and towns. The Association is dedicated to the principles established by the cities and towns that founded it: to offer the services, programs and products that will give municipal officials the knowledge, experience and tools necessary to operate efficiently and effectively in the complex world of local government.

What We’re Searching For

The Municipal Association of SC is accepting applications for the position of staff associate for affiliate services. This full-time position will work with the Association’s education and training team and serves as the director of multiple affiliate associations.

Job Duties:

  • Provides executive support to the board of directors of the assigned affiliates; prepares meeting agenda/support materials, minutes, annual budget and recommended training topics for affiliate board approval; actively participates in board meetings of assigned affiliates to share recommendations, information and receive input/direction from the boards with regard to the educational goals of the affiliates; responsible for the accomplishment of annual goals of the affiliates.
  • Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates training programs for assigned affiliate groups; develops training agendas; secures speakers and other meeting facilitators; solicits and coordinates all exhibitor and sponsor activities; oversees the marketing, registration process and execution of all meeting logistics; works closely with the Association’s director of member services and affiliate administrative assistant in carrying out these duties.
  • Budgets, reviews, manages, and reports on finances of assigned affiliate organizations ensuring the financial soundness of each affiliate.
  • Prepares, organizes, and implements marketing and membership renewal process for assigned affiliates including patron members.
  • Manages special projects, assignments, meetings, etc. related to assigned affiliate operations such as Small City Summit, recruiting sponsors/membership, listserves, and certification programs.
  • Travels periodically to perform the duties of this position and to attend conferences, training, workshops, meetings, etc., to maintain knowledge of current issues, trends and technology affecting subject matter of assigned affiliates.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, urban planning, or a related degree. Five years of relevant work experience may be substituted for education.
  • Five years of association management or meeting/event planning experience, preferably in a non-profit setting (experience requirement is in addition to relevant work experience in place of a degree); advanced skills in all Microsoft Office programs; Database experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills; and the ability to think strategically and be a team player.
  • Valid state driver’s license
