Police Lieutenant, City of Fountain Inn
Manages, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; motivating officers toward goals; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Assists with preparation of short-term and long-range management plans for assigned units, which may include Communications, Investigations, Administration, Property and Evidence, Records, Training, Uniform Patrol or other areas: prepares, reviews, and coordinates special programs and project development; reviews and analyzes trends and data; prepares strategic action plans; prepares training schedules and activities; and recommends changes to policies, procedures and protocols.
Provides guidance on prevention, intervention, and enforcement strategies and acts as the primary means of quality control at the division level in the organization. As needed, represents the department to the media and community entities. Participates in and facilitates the timely and effective operation of the Department’s disciplinary system.
Associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred; supplemented by two years of experience as a Police Sergeant; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must possess and maintain a Class I certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA). May be required to obtain and maintain additional certifications as deemed necessary.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Has a thorough knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Police Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Lieutenant. Has considerable knowledge of the methods, organization, planning, management, and supervision of a city law enforcement agency as reflected in the needs and requirements of the city. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively.
