Police Chief, City of Chester
Provides executive leadership for the Chester Police Department, overseeing all law enforcement operations including patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, community policing, and emergency response. Manages recruitment, training, discipline, and performance of personnel. Prepares and administers an approximately $2 million departmental budget. Develops and enforces policies, ensures legal and constitutional compliance, leads critical incidents, collaborates with partner agencies, and builds public trust through transparency and community engagement.
Bachelor’s degree preferred; significant command-level law enforcement experience may substitute. Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including at least 5 years in a senior supervisory or command-level role. Demonstrated experience leading personnel, managing operations, and overseeing a multi-million-dollar budget. Proven ability to lead during critical incidents and under public scrutiny. Valid South Carolina Law Enforcement Officer certification or ability to obtain, and a valid driver’s license.
