Planning Manager, Lower Savannah Council of Governments
The Planning Manager administers planning programs including but not limited to transportation, comprehensive, and, hazard mitigation plans, zoning ordinances, land use regulations, and general planning documents necessary to maintain compliance with state law at the local level.
Provide technical assistance to local governments in the preparation and implementation of plans and programs necessary for local government planning and compliance with state and local laws and ordinances. 2. Acts as the lead staff for the regional transportation planning and coordinator of the Transportation Advisory Committee. When needed, provide technical assistance with planning related transit projects, plans and studies.
Knowledge of State, Federal and Local Planning and Zoning governing requirements. 2.APA (American Planners Association) -AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification preferred or ability to acquire within 24 months of hire date. 3.Demonstrated ability to manage complex analytical tasks. 4.Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs 5.Strong oral and written skills necessary to effectively communicate and write technical plans and requirements for counties and municipalities.
6. Ability to be flexible and respond quickly and effectively to changing work assignments. 7.Ability to travel within the region and attend night meetings 8. Driving agency vehicles to locations within the six counties of Aiken, Allendale Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun or Orangeburg in carrying out the above duties. As well as traveling to necessary training or programmatic meetings outside of the region as needed. 9.Valid driver’s license required. 10.Must pass a background check.
Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or other related field and two years’ experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Political Science, Business or related field and four (4) years of community planning or business management experience; or equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible community planning or management experience in a multi-faceted public organization.
