Community Oriented Police Officer, Town of Ehrhardt
Serves as the point of contact and public relations for all community events. Builds and maintains relationships with non-profits and businesses within the community. Encourages positive policing with citizens. Attends community functions to include town hall meetings. Hosts community based programs and events, conducts welfare checks, victims services, attends public safety meetings and patrols portions of the town. Develops self-defense and community programs. K-9 demonstrations, charity functions and community focus groups. Maintains inventory of PD events and promotional items.
Contacts vendors and agencies to support planned community events, coordinates volunteers and assistance for events, promotes good public relations and conducts security checks, emergency protection, providing escorts through town and conducts security standbys. Engages in community oriented policing activities, promotes and market community events through communication channels. Patrols designated areas within the town limits and enforces state and local laws, investigates crimes against persons and property.
Provides information and assistance to the public, responds to emergency situations as requested. Receives, reviews, processes, files and submits incident, supplement, accident and booking reports. Submits witness statements, activity sheets, training reports and affidavits. Performs crime scene processing as necessary. Rolls fingerprint for criminals and citizens. Utilizes problem solving skills to meet peaceable resolutions to all parties.
High school diploma or GED. South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy certification or another state's law enforcement training academy BLET or POST required.
Knowledge of local, state and federal criminal and civil law. Knowledge of the procedures, guidelines and equipment used in law enforcement activities. Knowledge of the geographic layout of the town. Knowledge of controlled substances, chemicals and skill in implementation and enforcement of policies and guidelines.
Skill in the use of firearms and other law enforcement equipment. Ability to successfully complete police officer certification through the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Ability to use computers and various software programs such as Word and Excel. Ability to obtain DataMaster and RADAR/LIDAR certifications. Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written.
