Police Officer, Town of Allendale
Summary: This position is responsible for promoting public safety and protecting the welfare of the community through proactive patrol, enforcement of South Carolina state laws and municipal ordinances, and performance of general law enforcement duties. The role also includes the preparation and maintenance of accurate reports and records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Patrol assigned areas of the Town by vehicle, on foot, or by other approved means to maintain public order, deter criminal activity, and enforce traffic laws and local ordinances. Respond to a variety of calls for service, including but not limited to criminal complaints, traffic accidents, disturbances, and civil issues. Investigate incidents, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and take appropriate enforcement actions, which may include arrest or the use of force when justified.
Exercise sound judgement and remain composed in high stress and potentially dangerous situations. Prepare detailed and accurate reports and documentation of all activities and incidents. Process and book individuals taken into custody, ensuring all legal procedures and documentation are properly completed. Assist in the safe and orderly operation of the jail facility as needed.
REQUIREMENTS (A) Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment; (B) Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid SC Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any state; (C) Successful completion of SC Criminal Justice Academy within six (6) months of hire; (D) Ability to meet Department's physical standards. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience. (A) High School Diploma or GED equivalent. (B) Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (A) working knowledge of modern law.
