Town Administrator, Town of Summerville
The Town of Summerville is looking for a dynamic, talented, and experienced Town Administrator to help guide and assist the Town Council in realizing its vision for the future. Summerville is located in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry and is part of one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas of the Southeast. In 2021, the Town’s population was 51,216. We are situated in the southeastern region of Dorchester County, with incorporated areas expanding into both Charleston and Berkeley Counties. The Town recognizes the need to preserve and protect its history and culture.
It is vital to Summerville’s historic character and charm. The tremendous growth in the tri-county area has added pressure to the Town’s infrastructure and resources. Our Vision Plan is a long-range community vision for Summerville that seeks to address some of our future land use and transportation needs. It is Council’s desire to build on this vision and create a comprehensive strategic plan to execute it. The Town of Summerville is a Council form of government. Summerville residents recently elected a new Mayor and two new Council members. There is a sense of new energy and excitement.
Requires a Master's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, supplemented by five to six years of experience in increasingly responsible management experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires: Knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Town as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Town Administrator. Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge of Town organization and operational poli¬cies and procedures. Knowledge of public administration principles and practices with particular reference to Town operations and administration, including the principles of organization and functions of Town government units. Knowledge of accounting information systems and of fund accounting and internal control. Has thorough knowledge of the preparation of estimated annual budgets.
Ability to effectively communicate with individuals or groups utilizing a broad base of verbal skills. Is able to utilize and interpret legal, financial, accounting, and related terminology as necessary in communicating in an effective manner. Knowledge of the operations associated with administration, planning and development, public safety and public works. Ability to develop and administer long-term goals for the Town as necessary in the promotion of effectiveness and efficiency for Town benefit. Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
