Job Duties

Support Planning Projects and Initiatives: Perform complex technical and administrative duties to support the City’s long-range planning efforts including the preparation of the comprehensive plan, small-area plan creation and implementations, planning-related studies, and other projects. Conduct detailed research and analysis, prepare written reports and materials, and create maps, charts, and other visual graphics. Develop recommendations, strategies, and actions to advance project and community priorities based on planning best practices.

Coordinate and Conduct Planning Commission Meetings: Serve as primary or backup staff liaison to the City Planning Commission. Orchestrate all aspects of staff support to the commission and facilitate commission compliance with legal requirements for posting, notice and meeting conduct. Perform planning analyses of proposals and prepare staff reports. Confer with commission chair and orchestrate meetings setup and protocols. Present oral staff reports to boards and public. Prepare revised Planning Commission staff reports for transmission to City Council. Edit meeting minutes.

Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, city/regional planning, public administration, landscape architecture, or a related field. Over four years of progressively responsible professional planning experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Must meet professional development requirements for Local Planning or Zoning Officials per SC Code 6-29-1310. Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.

PREFERRED: Master’s degree in architecture, city/regional planning, public administration, landscape architecture, or a related field. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

Pay Info
$67,300.00 - $94,300.00 Annually
