Job Duties

Plans, organizes, and supervises comprehensive recreation programs for all ages for the City of Seneca and surrounding areas. Supervises departmental positions and other support staff, part-time, contracted, or seasonal personnel either directly or through subordinate supervisors. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, coordinates, and directs a diversified year-round, city-wide parks and recreation program including management of recreation buildings, parks, indoor center, playgrounds, ball fields, and other facilities.

Coordinates the recreation program with the parks program, other city departments, and outside organizations such as the school districts and various community-based organizations. Plans, organizes, and directs various recreation programs including youth and adult athletics, crafts, and youth summer playground program in conjunction with staff. Delegates Park and recreation responsibilities to staff. Frequently tours grounds to inspect equipment and facilities to ensure that work is being completed on schedule and in accordance with policy.

Supervises and assists athletic personnel in planning schedules, team, and roster development, recruiting and training of officials and coaches, and all-star competition. Supervises games and events and monitor’s staff. May keep score or officiate when necessary. Circulates through the crowd and receive feedback. May sell concessions. Plans and organizes a variety of programs to maximize the use of the recreation center. Researches and organizes grant applications. Supervises, hires, and assigns duties to all regular staff members.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Parks, Recreation, Tourism Management, Business, or field related to parks and recreation, and five years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation programs, with at least three year’s experience in a supervisory capacity, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern parks and recreation programs. Thorough knowledge of equipment and facilities required in a comprehensive park and recreation program. Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of maintenance, construction, and use of public buildings and park facilities. Considerable knowledge of community recreation needs and resources. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of office management, work organization and supervision.

Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive community park and recreation program. Ability to coordinate, analyze, and utilize a variety of reports and records. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.
