Job Duties

The Director oversees the development, management, and operation of a comprehensive community recreation department with seven parks, a City pool, numerous recreational facilities, and various community cultural events.

Work includes organizing, planning, coordinating, evaluating, and directing the work of professional staff and other support employees. In addition, maintenance and clerical duties, personnel and budget management are required.

Work is performed under the managerial direction of the Mayor and City Administrator.

Qualifications

Must have comprehensive knowledge of administrative practices relating to parks and recreation; extensive understanding of the philosophy and principles of public park and recreation services; ability to analyze operational problem areas and to make improvements; ability to present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with department heads, recreation staff, and community groups.

A bachelor's degree in Parks/Recreation Management or Physical Education; or experience in public recreation at a supervisory level and a high school diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and management experience.

Must be certified through the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association and as an SC DHEC Pool Operator, or obtain these within one year.

Pay Info
Salary $50,000-$60,000 dependent on qualifications.
