Employees in this position generally work standard business hours during weekdays but may be required to work other shift arrangements as required by staffing levels.
Job Duties

Serves as a training officer, implementing all aspects of the Department’s training plan under the Police Lieutenant’s guidance and supervision. This officer will be required to possess or obtain and maintain training certifications as needed to support the Department’s training needs, ensure departmental compliance with state training mandates.

Prepares and develops in-house training programs delivered through approved lesson plans in compliance with South Carolina Criminal Justice guidelines; sets up and conducts timely training sessions including firearms, driving, defensive tactics, etc.; supervises the department’s field training program and ensures newly hired officers obtain and/or maintain their law enforcement certification.

Monitors, ensures compliance with, and updates as needed the Department’s compliance with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council’s established standards; serves as the Department’s Accreditation Manager should the Department pursue state or federal accreditation.

Qualifications

Must have at least seven years of experience as a certified police officer; supported by at least three years of supervisory experience; possess of be able to possess Class 1 certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy.

Must possess or be able to possess certifications as a Basic Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Driving Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Taser instructor, Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Instructor, Field Training Manager, and Training Manager through the South Carolina Criminal al Justice Academy; possess or be able to possess additional instructor certifications as deemed necessary by Department leadership; must have the ability to research, develop, write, and administer superior training lesson plans that reflect the highest level of professionalism and standards.

Pay Info
Salary Grade J: Sergeant Rank: $53,281 - $75,547. Salary will be determined based on law enforcement experience, training experience, and certifications.
