Investigations Supervisor, City of Beaufort Police Department
Under limited supervision, directs the personnel, operations, and administration of the Investigators assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division under the direction of the Operations Commander. As assigned, manages, and coordinates criminal investigations into violations involving criminal offenses, narcotics, vice, alcohol-related crimes, and general criminal activity.
Exercises independent judgment and is totally accountable for all law enforcement and operational assignments, and for ensuring all criminal investigations are conducted ethically and within the confines of the law and the established policies of the Beaufort Police Department. Ensures for the proper enforcement of all federal and state laws, city ordinances and Department orders, rules, regulations, and procedures. Exercises independent judgment and is accountable for all areas of assigned responsibilities.
Participates in the department's philosophy of community team policing and problem-solving. Reports to the Operations Captain. The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of the specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Responsible for assigning and managing all criminal investigations functions. Assumes command at all major crime scenes; assigns cases and ensures all investigations are completed in a timely, pro-active manner.
Incumbent requires a bachelor’s degree or an associate degree in criminal justice, management, business administration or a related field and eight years of experience in law enforcement, with a minimum of five years at a comparable law enforcement agency, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have scored a minimum of a 3 on the department PAC to be eligible to apply for this position. This position requires above average written and oral communication skills, must be organized, and detailed oriented.
Must have additional training / experience in supervision, community-oriented policing, problem solving, police administration/management, computer technology and planning. Must meet all the standards for certification as a police officer in the state of South Carolina and/or become state-certified within six months of employment or hold a current S.C. law enforcement certification.
This position requires the person to have a valid S.C. driver's license or the ability to obtain S.C. driver’s license and be able to maintain all training requirements as mandated by the Police Department, City of Beaufort, and state of Carolina.
