Job Duties

General Position Overview: Performs investigative work, conducting investigations of crimes for the City of Newberry to support the enforcement of Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances. Work involves reporting investigative findings, maintaining evidence, maintaining files, and preparing various reports and records. Employees work under stressful, high-risk conditions—reports to the Investigations Lieutenant.

Conducts examinations and compositions of physical evidence such as fingerprints and footwear; renders opinions as to the identity. Presents cases at preliminary hearings and to the grand jury and circuit courts. Assists in the investigations of internal affairs; assists patrol unit as needed.

Photographs crime scenes and evidence; processes and develops film. Remains on call twenty-four hours a day for emergencies. Conducts forensic examinations of suspect materials; renders expert opinion on actual substances; performs fingerprinting of walk-ins for background purposes. Assists in investigations of internal affairs; assists patrol units as needed; assists narcotics division as needed; assists in the supervision of records and victim services to ensure adherence to state and federal guidelines, annual audits, and assists in the accreditation proces

Qualifications

Certified Law Enforcement Officer with at least three to four years of experience in law enforcement; prefer at least one to two years of supervisory level experience.

High school diploma/GED; prefer associate degree in criminal justice, social science, or related field.

Valid SC driver's license.

Pay Info
Entry Level $53,620 ~ $58,640 depending on experience, military, education, certifications, and credentials.
