Job Duties

Under general supervision, performs journeyman level electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work. Diagnoses electrical problems and determines appropriate methods of repair. Estimates cost of labor and materials. Determines the layout of projects. Completes projects according to blueprints, plans, or schematics. Installs, tests, and replaces components of electrical circuitry and internal power distribution systems including conduit, wiring, connections, receptacles, breakers, panels, and switches.

Tests, repairs, and replaces or installs electrical generators, transformers, and uninterrupted power systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs motors, controls, and other electrical components of equipment and appliances including heating, ventilation, pumping, and solid-state control systems. Installs, tests, and repairs doorbells, buzzers, thermostats, lighting fixtures, alarm systems (if feasible), and communications systems. May lead and instruct other workers.

Follows and ensures compliance with safety procedures and electrical codes. Drives an automobile, light truck to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites. Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: ensures adequate inventory to complete work assignments; orders equipment, parts, and supplies in compliance with City procurement policies and procedures; and maintains related documentation. May supervise and participate in the operation, use and maintenance of City-owned vehicles, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and other power and motorized equipment; ensures maintenance of equipment and tools in work and shop areas; and schedules repairs as needed.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by minimum three years of related electrical experience; or an Associate Degree in Electrical Systems with two-years’ experience; or completion of a formal apprenticeship program with two years related experience; or completion of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must be a certified licensed electrician.

$44,905 annually
