Job Duties

The purpose of this classification is to oversee the development, maintenance, and management of all public works projects and initiatives within the city, including but not limited to sewer, stormwater, sanitation, recycling, yard debris, streets maintenance, parks maintenance, and facilities maintenance. All duties are to be performed with a commitment to leading and developing the workforce, strategic planning, and to delivering high-quality services to the residents of the city.

Manages, directs, and evaluates a team of departmental staff, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the successful completion of projects and initiatives, either directly or through subordinates. Determines work procedures, work schedules, and guidelines. Updates department guidelines according to local, state, or federal rules and regulations.

Communicates with City officials, City administrator, other City employees, developers, vendors, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Serves as the primary point of contact for all public works projects, providing regular updates to city officials, stakeholders, and the public on project status, timelines, and milestones. Oversees preparation of and presents oral and written reports to City Council and related boards and commissions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Engineering, or a related field required; supplemented by seven years of progressively responsible experience in public works infrastructure maintenance and repair, or other field, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position including but not limited to current communication technologies, hardware, and software.

Pay Info
$89,950.00 - $117,120.00 Annually
