Director of Code Compliance, City of West Columbia
Manages all aspects of city-wide code compliance, which includes city, business license, hospitality tax, and zoning ordinances. Serves as the supervisor for all Code Compliance Inspectors. Assigns work areas for code inspections. Manages department budget and oversees and maintains department records. Provides training to code inspectors; ensures code inspector complete periodic training related to code enforcement, planning and zoning administration, sign regulation, landscape regulation and job-related duties.
Develops and updates departmental policies and procedures, and city code enforcement ordinances; keeps abreast of all changes in city codes. Manages all aspects of the Blight Removal Program, including identifying properties and abatement strategies. Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other city departments, business owners and operators, vendors, and general public in the course of work; provides public education.
Receives and responds to citizen inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints related to municipal code and zoning ordinance regulations, business license regulations, and nuisance abatement. Performs field inspections and re-inspections to verify compliance or non-compliance with nuisance related ordinances, and zoning codes affecting private property. Patrols all areas of the city to monitor overall compliance of codes related to the use and maintenance of private property and compliance with business license regulations.
Requires an associate degree in business administration, criminal justice, construction management, or a related field supplemented by five years experience in code compliance, municipal government, zoning administration, law enforcement, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position of Code Compliance Manager. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must have required certifications.
