Deputy Building Official, City of Hardeeville
Provide general supervision to Building Department staff. Performs residential and commercial plan reviews for compliance with applicable building codes and local ordinances to include Flood hazard prevention ordinance. Assign daily inspections to staff building inspectors.
Offers guidance and training to building inspectors and plan reviewers regarding building codes and enforcement. Performs complex inspections involving building and fire codes. Addresses and resolves complaints. Must be available during emergency situations and be involved with Emergency Management Operations when activated
Interacts with contractors, engineers, architects, developers, staff, and property owners to explain and interpret the codes and the need for compliance with such. Enforces all prevailing building codes and local ordinances. Receives and responds to public inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding assigned cases and general department procedures.
At least 5 years experience as a building official or equivalent as an architect, engineer, inspector, or any combination of experience equal to the above. Oral and written communication skills including speaking and presentations at various meetings and problem resolution a must. Computer skills including current Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and department related software.
Must possess ability to positively interact with staff, contractors, architects, engineers, governmental entities, and the general public. Must have current Certified Building Official Certification (CBO) or obtain certification within one year of hire date and all required State of SC building certificates. Must maintain valid certification. Certified Floodplain Managers Certification a plus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
