Crew Leader – Electric Division, City of Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities
The purpose of this classification is to lead an assigned crew of Linemen involved in performing construction, repair and maintenance of electric power transmission and distribution systems. Essential Functions: Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers; Leads and participates in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electric power transmission and distribution systems; Leads and participates in the restoration and repair of above ground and underground electric services; Determines materials and equipment required to complete assigned tasks;
Adheres to established safety procedures: monitors work environment and use of safety equipment; Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures; Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices; Utilizes maintenance, work order, or department-specific software; Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies; Communicates with supervisor, other employees, the public, and other individuals as needed;
May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week; In Supervisors absence, may assign duties, support crew’s needs to correct problems, check equipment and trucks; Performs other related duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in specific work area which includes on the job and formal training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies.
Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s), a valid First Aid/CPR certificate, and be climber certified. Must possess and maintain Lineman certification.
Must have a working knowledge of OSHA, NEC, NESC, and NFP safety rules and regulations as it relates to electric distribution systems. Must be able to operate a computer and/or tablet to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, e-mail, or other software. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
