Job Duties

The purpose of this job within the organization is to manage the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Division. This division includes the supervision of accounting and reporting functions of the City’s payroll and accounts payable processes.

The position is highly visible throughout the organization and communicates directly with all City Department Heads and Division leads in the City. The Controller also develops processes, helps maintain effective internal controls, and prepares various periodic reports including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major issues, financial activities, and accomplishments through periodic meetings with department heads and management. This position reports to the Finance and Budget Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CGFO (Certified Government Finance Officer) preferred. Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in governmental accounting, financial management, or public sector finance and 5-10 years of managerial experience. Experience with fund accounting and government budgeting practices. Special Certifications and Licenses: Certified Public Accountant, Certified Government Finance Officer, or Certified Public Finance Officer credential strongly preferred.
