Building Inspector, Town of Surfside Beach
Performs building inspections; enforces related codes; maintains records and files; prepares reports. Performs field inspections and re-inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and public facilities construction and existing structures for compliance with building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes.
Prepares reports and correspondence; maintains records and files; enters inspections into computer. Attends meetings with builders, architectures, engineers, and the general public; confers with contractors, owners, staff and State Officials on code compliance matters and interpretations. • Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints in regard to building code issues.
Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints in regards to building code issues. Reviews plans for compliance with local state and federal compliance; issues permits. Issues warnings, stop work orders and/or condemnation for noncompliance; testifies in court as necessary.
Requires a high school diploma or GED. A minimum of five years of experience in the commercial and residential construction industry is required. Knowledge of principles and practices of commercial, industrial and residential construction; federal and state building codes; structural, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing and fire prevention codes for building construction is preferred.
ICC Inspector License is preferred or must be able to obtain the certification within one year of hire date, as required by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. Maintain continuing education, as required by SC LLR. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
