The Risk Management Services programs have a long-standing history of offering grants to fund essential risk reduction initiatives. The grant programs support a core RMS mission: reducing claims. This focus on municipal interests and commitment to addressing claims at their source sets the RMS programs apart from its competition.

The grant programs operate on a first-come, first-served reimbursement basis. After completing the required application process, members can request reimbursement for up to 50 percent of the cost of allowable equipment purchases. Request are limited to $2,000 per member, per grant, per year for the Law Enforcement Safety Grant, Fire Service Grant and the Public Works Safety Grant. Law Enforcement Liability Reduction Grant requests are limited to $4,000 per member.

The Soft Body Armor grant has been renamed the Law Enforcement Safety Grant and now has increased funding of $75,000 per year. Police departments can use it to purchase tourniquets, trauma kits and automatic external defibrillators in addition to the soft body armor.

The Fire Service Grant funding has been increased to $100,000 per year.

Applications for grants will be accepted beginning February 1 and can be submitted online. Contact Financial Manager Jennifer Gray at or 803.933.1260 for more information.
