The SC Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund has welcomed members, the Town of Troy effective as of April 1 and the Town of Rockville effective as of June 3.

Risk Management Services Welcomes New Assistant Claims Manager and Loss Control Manager

Risk Management Services is pleased to welcome Paulette Mickey as the new assistant claims manager.

Paulette Mickey

Work Experience: 20 years of claims handling experience, including most recently as a unit manager with York Risk Services Group.

Hometown: Crowley, Louisiana.

Education: bachelor's degree in business management and master's degree in business administration.

Hobbies: fishing, cooking, watching movies and playing board games with my family.

 

Bethany Pendley Joins Risk Management Services as New Loss Control Manager

Bethany Pendley

Work Experience: Employed at MetLife for almost 22 years in various roles within the auto claims department. Most recently, worked on the associate development team as a business instructor and learning partner.

Hometown: grew up in Austell, Georgia, but now considers Columbia her hometown. 

Education: bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina.

Professional designations: associate designations in insurance services and claims and certificate in supervisory management from the Insurance Institutes of America.

Hobbies: gardening (vegetables, fruits, and flowers), sewing, building/construction and learning as a lifelong student.

 

Connie Martin, Senior SCMIRF Claims Adjuster, Retires

Risk Management Services Senior SC Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund Claims Adjuster Connie Martin retired in February. She joined the Association in 2010. Prior to that, she worked on the SCMIRF account as a claims supervisor and adjuster with Companion Third Party Administrators.

"Connie will be greatly missed by the Risk Management Services group," Heather Ricard, director of Risk Management Services, said. "We wish her the best during her retirement."

 

Joy Gloster Promoted to New Risk Management Services Position

Joy Gloster has been promoted to Data and Training Analyst. Previously, she worked as Technology Operations Specialist.

Gloster joined the Association in 2008. She provides technical and training support to Association staff and members of the Risk Management Services programs.

She is a University of South Carolina graduate with bachelor's degrees in finance and insurance/risk management, with a minor in criminal justice. In 2012, Gloster received a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. She also received associate designations in risk management for public entities and information technology from the Insurance Institute of America.

 

Risk Management Services Offers COVID-19 Grant

The SC Municipal Insurance Trust is offering grant funds for the purchase of equipment and supplies to protect municipal employees against the spread of COVID-19. The grant funds are available, up to $2,000 per member, with no matching requirements. There is no application required and the funding is available on a first come, first serve basis. Eligible items for purchase include:

  • disinfectant agents, cleaners, cleaning equipment and cleaning services
  • respirators and masks; and
  • personal protective equipment, such as goggles, face masks, surgical gowns and gloves

In order to receive the grant funds, SCMIT members should submit one request for reimbursement, including all copies of paid invoices for eligible items, to rmsgrants@masc.sc. Note in the subject line of the email that the invoices are for the COVID-19 Safety Grant and include the city name and contact and phone number in the body of the email.
