Risk Management Services Welcomes New Underwriting Manager

Risk Management Services is pleased to welcome Robert Collins as the new underwriting 
Robert Collinsmanager.

Work Experience: More than 20 years of experience in the commercial insurance industry, most recently as commercial insurance account manager with Hub International. Prior to Hub, employed with the South Carolina Association of Counties working with governmental risk pooling programs.  

Hometown: Columbia, SC

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration and management information systems from the University of South Carolina. 

Professional designations: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Certified Insurance Counselor designations, and a licensed insurance producer.

Hobbies: Running, kayaking, playing guitar and growing unusual citrus plants.

Risk Management Services Offers Public Works Grant

Earlier this year, the South Carolina Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund introduced the Public Works Property and Liability Reduction grant. The grant offers financial assistance to public works departments to procure products or services that may help reduce the frequency and severity of claims. A reduction in claims can lead to the ultimate goal — minimizing future premiums for SCMIRF members. Grant funds of $100,000 is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, for a total amount of $4,000 per member, with a 50% matching requirement.

Equipment/services considered include
  • sewer cameras;
  • acoustic pipe inspectors;
  • scarifiers;
  • scarifier services paid to an insured third party vendor;
  • sidewalk de-icing equipment or materials;
  • traffic-rated meter boxes and lids;
  • backup cameras;
  • collision avoidance systems; and
  • training reimbursement and more.

The Municipal Association of South Carolina Risk Management Services offers online courses for viewing on LocalGovU. The courses are free and available 24/7 from any computer with internet access. The training courses offered by LocalGovU provide awareness-level training and may meet continuing education credits for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, South Carolina Planning Education Advisory Committee, Board of Environmental Certification Water and Wastewater Treatment Operators, and Board of Environmental Certification Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Operators.
